Social Work Students at the University of Regina’s Saskatoon campus will be watching Tuesday’s provincial budget with great interest. They are hoping last year’s three-percent cut in post secondary education fundaing will be reversed. Saskatoon Social Work Student Society President Healther Crooks said cuts have forced the use of more sessional instructors which could threaten the program’s provincial accreditation. Crooks said further cuts from a program already bursting at the seams could result in a reduction in classes meaning it could take three years for some students to graduate and scare them away from the program. Crooks says their greatest fear is their future clients will suffer the most if funding isn’t restored.
