If you were on Highway 11 near Chamberlain on the weekend, you may have been part of a long lineup of vehicles in either direction with traffic stalled with a 42 minute wait for some drivers. The province apologized for this inconvenience and the Highways Ministry says they are working with the contractor to correct this situation. Ministry spokesperson, Doug Wakabayashi, says the challenge is they are paving the highway at Chamberlain where it is one-way traffic in either direction. That means intermittent one-way traffic while the work is going on, and that’s what is causing the delays.
The Ministry is working with the contractor to come up with a traffic plan to limit delays. It includes stopping work and letting the vehicles drive through if traffic starts to back up. The work should be done by the end of this week, but Wakabayashi says, if it isn’t, it’s his understanding the contractor will shut down for the long weekend.
There were also complaints that the Highway Hotline said there was construction, but there was no warning of delays. Wakabayashi says the contractor has been asked to provide more specific information to be put on the Hotline.
