The Government of Saskatchewan is reminding hunters about how to gear up for this hunting season.

Hunters need a licence to hunt. The Saskatchewan Big Game Draw and regular hunting licenses became available for purchase yesterday (Saturday). Licenses can be purchased either in person, over the phone, or through the Government of Saskatchewan’s online Hunting, Angling, and Trapping online system.

Hunters will have to make sure they have their HAL accounts ready when purchasing their license. Information on HAL accounts can be accessed by visiting saskatchewanhal.ca.

Hunters can also pick up the Saskatchewan Hunters Guide. The guide has information about season dates, licence options and fees, wildlife management updates and changes for the upcoming hunting season. The guide can be downloaded online, or printed copies are available at Government of Saskatchewan field offices, select retailers and some provincial parks.

Hunters must be aware of the permission needed to hunt on private land. About 85 per cent of land in southern Saskatchewan is privately owned. Permission can be gained in person, over the phone or by email. Consent to hunt can be given either orally, in writing, or through signage.
