This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. I’d like to take time out to salute those who go the extra mile to support their community in ways both big and small. We so often have unsung heroes in our midst who may volunteer with say a rotary club or the Kinsmen, perhaps they give some of their time to the local food bank, maybe an animal rescue. And the number of organizations that provide untold support to so many, for instance the Lions Clubs of Canada which many don’t realize are an integral part of the chain for eye tissue transplants and that is just one element of their community service. I was fortunate enough to spend part of my weekend in Candle Lake to emcee the dinner for the Drive Away Cancer golf tournament. Women from the area get together and raise money that is donated to the Saskatchewan Cancer Foundation of which the funds are dedicated to mammography screening. The ladies were outstanding. They got there early, decorated their carts at a level of creativity that was off the charts in addition to incredible costumes. And part of the backbone of that event, again, volunteers. So big shout out to Estelle who carried the mantle prior to Lisa Beres as well as her son and Melissa Pouliot. It takes a community to keep a community alive and thriving and they showed up on the weekend in Candle Lake.
