It’s my Parting Shot for another entry from The Fearless Predictor, this time dealing with the W-H-L’s Ed Chynoweth Cup final…..
I will quote from the March 27 edition of this commentary when T-F-P said…
…What T-F-P is counting on is the Memorial Cup-host Kelowna Rockets not winning the Western Conference title and counting on the Everett Silvertips showing the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy form in the playoffs and winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the final over the Prince Albert Raiders!
Yes, I said that almost six full weeks ago! Along the line, T-F-P was wrong in predicting that the Saskatoon Blades would lose their opening round series to Edmonton – that was a happy error – and that Brandon would advance to the second round over Calgary, plus the Prince George second round win over Penticton didn’t pan out. Otherwise, picking the winners of 11 of 14 series is pretty good! It wouldn’t win any money in Vegas or with any sports books that would deal in the W-H-L, but still pretty good in my humble opinion!
As for this best on best match-up between the Tips and P-A, the March 27 prediction will stay!
This will be the eighth time since 2001 that the best team from East of the Rocky Mountains during the regular-season is facing the top team from West of the Rockies.
My one and only live and in-person viewing of Everett this season came October 24th in the madhouse known as Angel of the Winds Arena. The Silvertips scored three times in the first period and cruised to a 3-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades. The Tips out-shot the Bridge City Bunch 39-16 in a dominant performance in which Evan Gardner kept the Blue and Gold in the game after a shaky start. Everett was without defenceman and consensus first overall pick in the 2027 N-H-L Draft, Landon Dupont, as well!
T-F-P is very well acquainted with how dominant the Raiders were in head-to-head meetings this season with the Blades – winning 10 of 12 total between regular-season and playoffs!
Having said that, there isn’t much to choose between the Silvertips and P-A. They are both deep, skilled and talented in all areas and the difference may just boil down to home-ice advantage in Game 7 – which is why I’m saying Everett over Prince Albert as this season goes the absolute distance!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
