Every year I say I’m going to cut back on the plants in my yard, starting with the tomatoes and peppers. I grow them and make salsa and soup in the fall. And invariably my decision to have say – eight plants – used to end up being about 25 and now seems to regularly fall into the 15 to 18 range. Which is a lot of tomatoes. And I love them. Don’t love all the work all at once in September and October in terms of making salsa and canning but sure do enjoy it during the winter months. Same goes for flowers. I literally moved along at least a dozen pots. I am pretty sure I’ve replaced them all. We asked in our news poll question ‘If you plant a garden of any kind or put out pots, when do you plan to plant this year?’ The majority answered when they see a long-term forecast where they don’t have to cover plants because there might be frost. But this year, maybe because of the crappy crazy weather, I just can’t see myself buying anything before June. I don’t plan to keep anything in my house in advance of said planting, and I do not want to be taking stuff in and out of the garage or covering it up. Maybe things will perk up when it looks like the weather has really turned the corner. But I’m not convinced we won’t possibly see more snow.
