I find it interesting that Betty Nippi Albright is going to sit as an independent. There is the argument that those who voted her in voted because they wanted an NDP representative. Fair. But independent and not party affiliated is as much a choice to underscore protest as crossing to the other side. And I have more respect for politicians who choose to, on principle, sit as independent, versus joining the majority which ostensibly could provide them and their riding with some bonuses. Her statement said she could no longer support the direction of her party’s leadership. I’m deeply curious what exactly that means. To say there has been a definite strategy roll-out by the NDP is an understatement. There are multiple news availabilities in multiple communities every single day reinforcing much of what is said in the legislature during debate. The NDP says it has had its biggest non-election fundraising year ever; time will tell if that remains of reflection of the voting public in Saskatchewan.
