On April 28th, human remains were found northeast of Moose Jaw. RCMP don’t believe the death was suspicious, but are looking for tips from the public to identify the person.
The RCMP’s Historical Case Unit, with help from Moose Jaw RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP Search and Rescue, led searches of the campsite area and used remotely piloted aircraft systems, ATVs, metal detectors and manual search techniques. From that, a number of personal items were found. (larger pictures below) One item narrowed down the timeframe for when the individual may have been in the area. A tube of toothpaste had a 2013 expiry date was located. Given that date, from what investigators have learned, it was manufactured no earlier than 2012.
Corporal Craig Park of the HCU says, “This is someone’s loved one and at the end of the day, we would love to be able to bring closure to that family.” The investigation is in its early stages and searches of the area continue.
Anyone with information is asked to call the HCU at 639-625-3156. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
