A $70,000 donation from ATL Group will greatly assist Wanuskewin Heritage Park in their journey to become Saskatchewan’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Alan Long, Wanuskewin Director of Development says the money will provide support when it comes to creating a compelling application to be submitted to UNESCO. The funds will also go towards an on-site archaeological storage facility for the archaeological findings at the park, which will help Wanuskewin maintain a safe and intact archaeological record, a key component for a World Heritage Site candidate.

Wanuskewin has been the fieldwork site for countless archaeology students from the University of Saskatchewan. These former students now make up a large number of ATL Group members who are showing their gratitude for the partnership with this donation. Another former member of the university, Chief Archaeologist Dr. Ernie Walker led many archaeological digs at the park.  Long says Dr. Walker created an incredible legacy in bringing Saskatchewan’s important history to light with his research and findings.

ATL Group is made up of three independent companies: Atlheritage Services, Atlwest Communications, and Atlas Geospatial. Atlwest Communications will be a key partner in Wanuskewin’s bid to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as they will be responsible for engaging stakeholders. The park intents to achieve the title by the year 2025.
