Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship will be going by a new name to honour the person behind a $5 million gift to the Time To Rise campaign.
Entrepreneur Merlis Belsher is being honoured by Sask Polytech for his gift. The $5 million gift has helped the campaign reach over 80 per cent of their $100 million goal.
The Time To Rise campaign aims to create the new Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus on the University of Saskatchewan property. The new campus will also come with expand program capacity to better teach students.
Dr. Larry Rosia, president and CEO of Sask Polytech, says Belsher contribution means the campaign will likely be able to wrap up around December 2027.
“We are deeply grateful to Merlis for including Sask Polytech in his remarkable legacy of giving and for championing the development of the new Joseph A. Remai Saskatoon Campus,”
Belsher had connections to Sask Polytech prior to the donation when he was awarded an honorary degree in Applied Studies in recognition of his business achievements and community service.
Alongside education, Belsher has made contributions to health care and charitable organizations.
Rosia says the business school will be known as Merlis Belsher School of Business and Entrepreneurship to honour him.
“His name will remain a symbol of innovation, leadership and excellence for generations to come.”
Programs by the school will be offered at Sask Polytech’s Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert campuses.
