A wide swath of devastation over parts of the northern grainbelt on Saturday evening and very early Sunday, that included heavy rain, hail, strong damaging winds and at least four tornadoes.
Some of the worst damage was in the Kinistino area, about 30 kilometres northwest of Melfort, AgWorld in Kinistino posted photos on Facebook of severe damage to its buildings and operations caused by a massive plow wind. The ag dealership roof collapsed and bins were blown over. Across the road, FenceFast lost part of its roof.
The Carrot River area was also hit by strong wind that knocked over many trees and damaged crops and buildings. Hail was also a common sight at several locations in both the northeast and northwest on Saturday.
Earlier Saturday evening, there were reports of a tornado touching down in the Spiritwood area, with the Northern Tornado Project confirming parts of two tornadoes within a single storm not far from Glaslyn. There were also photos on social media of hailstones the size of baseballs.
Environment Canada confirmed a tornado around 5:30pm Saturday near Tulliby Lake, Alberta, about ten minutes west of the Onion Lake Cree Nation.
