Dr. Brian Rossnagel, a distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Saskatchewan’s Crop Development Centre, will be inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame later this year.
Dr. Brian Rossnagel transformed barley and oat production during his 35-year career. His prolific breeding program developed more than 100 varieties of barley and oats for feed, forage, food and malting markets. These varieties were widely adopted by producers in Western Canada, as well as other countries. Rossnagel’s legacy includes producer extension and mentorship to train future leaders.
Brian Rossnagel will be one of five people inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame in Toronto.
The others are Dr. David Bailey, who worked in varying leadership roles with Agriculture and AgriFood Canada; Gary Bowers—an outstanding breeder and ambassador for the Jersey dairy breed; Guy Charbonneau who played an active role in Quebec’s dairy sector, and Ken Forth, a vegetable and fruit grower from Ontario.
