Onion Lake RCMP say officers witnessed a 43 year old man from that community shoot himself on Monday.
He was declared dead at the scene.
As per the RCMP Act and RCMP policy, this matter is being investigated along with an Investigational Observer assigned by the province.
Police say last Saturday, the Onion Lake Detachment began an investigation into an assault and a suspect was identified.
The alleged suspect was found on Monday sitting in a vehicle holding a gun.
Police report that while they were engaging with him, he shot himself.
The officers didn’t fire a weapon during the incident.
