Cleanfarms is holding the collection program next week.

It’s an opportunity for farmers to safely dispose of outdated products at no cost. The program rotates across the country and is held only once every three years in a particular region.

Just under 90,000 kilograms of obsolete pesticides were collected in northern Saskatchewan three year ago. There were nearly 1,300 kilograms of obsolete animal health medications turned in as well. All of the products are incinerated at a special facility in Alberta.

“If anybody has ever dealt with these types of materials in the past to dispose them properly, it can be quite expensive to do it on your own,” says Shane Hedderson, Cleanfarm’s western business manager. “I highly suggest everyone takes the time, if they can, to participate in the program.”

Products that will not be accepted are liquid or granular fertilizers, paint, oil, needles or sharps.
