The RCMP 9mm Smith & Wesson reported stolen to the Saskatoon Police Service on August 8th has been turned in anonymously.
It was stolen from an unmarked police vehicle in a downtown hotel parkade.
The officer the firearm belonged to has been temporarily assigned to administrative duties while an internal review is being conducted.
Saskatoon Police say charges won’t be laid in relation to how the firearm was returned, but the investigation is continuing.
The Guns and Gangs Unit had been pursuing numerous avenues of investigation to locate the stolen gun.
About a week after it was stolen, a 60 year old man was arrested who matched the suspect description.
He had a controlled substance with him, but no gun and when two homes were searched, the gun wasn’t found.
