The Greatest Generation (those born before 1946) was followed by the Baby Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) followed by Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980), followed by Generation Y, also called Millennials (born in the 80’s and 90’s, or at least till the mid 90’s), followed by Generation Z (born either after 1995 or 2000). There isn’t total agreement on the beginning and ending birth years for Generations Y and Z. Some say Y births ended in the mid-90’s and Generation Z births are from 1995-2010. Those who subscribe to that theory had to come up with a generational name for those born after 2010 and the one that might take hold is Generation Alpha, seeing we’ve used up the last three letters in our alphabet. They say this generation will never be without a smartphone and massive technological changes will make Generation Alpha the most transformative generation ever. In the meantime, with all the talk nowadays about Millennials, it appears Generation Z will slightly overtake them, Generation Y, as a percentage of the global population by next year. As for us Baby Boomers, our glory days are rapidly slipping away as time marches on and there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s best for us to say, “To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high”. But should we throw it to Gen X, Y or Z?
