CUPE local 90 says it has reached an impasse in negotiations with the City of Weyburn. The union says the city is seeking serious concessions, including to bereavement leave, emergency and serious illness leave, to the grievance process, and to seniority and promotion rights. Local President Sherri Blackburn says, “The monetary offer they have outlined does not keep up with the cost of living and lags behind the wage increases that CUPE members employed by other municipalities receive.” According to Blackburn the city bypassed the Union Bargaining Committee and sent a final offer directly to the members. The members did not vote on the offer and directed the union to go to mediation. There has not been a strike vote or job action.
