Second Straight Second Period Scoring Outburst Lifts Blades Over Raiders in the Pre-Season

For a second straight night, the Saskatoon Blades scored five times in a second period – the latest middle frame explosion lifting the Bridge City Bunch to a 5-2 W-H-L pre-season triumph over the Prince Albert Raiders Saturday night in Warman.

The Blue and Gold also scored five goals in the second period on Friday in a 7-2 triumph in Swift Current. The Blades dressed a lineup that had nearly double the number of regular season games of experience than what P-A put out on the ice at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex – and it showed. Nineteen-year-old Kazden Mathies, a product of neighbouring Martensville, scored a pair of power play goals and added an assist to pace Saskatoon – now 2-1 in the pre-season. Eighteen-year-old Cooper Williams had a goal and two helpers while 19-year-old defenceman Brayden Klimpke chipped in a pair of assists. Jaggar John and Kain Martinuik also tallied for the Bridge City Bunch – as did Ben Bowtell in the five-minute, three-on-three, no return overtime session that was held after the 60 minutes were completed. Darius Hordal and Ben Harvey replied for the Raiders in the final 10 minutes of the third period – both scoring on 16-year-old Blue and Gold goaltending prospect Max Hartel. He stopped 18 of 20 shots, coming in relief of 19-year-old Taye Timmerman who stopped all nine shots he faced in the first 30 minutes of the game. For Prince Albert, also 2-1 in the pre-season, Brady Holtvogt started in goal and stopped 17 of 19 shots with Chase Kettles blocking 14 of 17 shots.
