A young entrepreneur is making his mark on Martensville with his very own ice cream business.

Ten-year-old Gus is the owner of Gus’ Sweet Treats, a mobile ice cream bike.

Gus says it was just last year when the idea to transform into the neighborhood ice cream man came to him. He had seen a Dicky Dee ice cream trike at a Warman Wolverines game, and with some help from his dad, he had a freezer full of ice cream mounted on an electric bike in no time.

He has everything from freezies to Dole whip to Drumsticks, and he takes both cash and card.

Not only has his business taken off, but he also has donated some of his proceeds to the Warman École Accessible Playground fund.

“I raised $225, but I threw in my tips, as well, to add a few more bucks to it, and that helped a bit,” he explained. “I think everybody deserves to have fun at a playground.”

Gus’ dad, Jason, says the business has been a great learning experience for his son.

“He’s doing an excellent job. Couldn’t be more proud of him. This summer he’s learned so much about business, and his math skills have improved and all that.”

Even though school is back and session, Gus says you’ll be able to find him on the streets of Martensville several days a week, when he isn’t busy at hockey practice, of course.
