Regina Police say a man whose remains were located in the backyard of a residence has been identified.
On June 9 this year around 4:15 p.m., police were dispatched to a call for service on the 1300 block of Retallack Street. The caller told police they had discovered what appeared to be human remains buried outside the home
Over the course of a week, investigators with the Regina Police Service Major Crimes Unit, Regina Police Service Forensic Identification Unit, Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the RCMP Historical Case Unit, methodically searched the area for evidence related to this suspicious death.
The victim was not listed in any missing person databases. Regina Police investigators worked closely with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to learn as much about the man as possible which included a request to the public to help identify the male.
Information gathered from that appeal opened up further investigative avenues including a request for a DNA match through the national RCMP DNA database. Earlier this week a match was confirmed.
The victim has been identified as Wayne Joseph Breed. As of today’s date, Breed would have been 34 years old. The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing.
