As of Thursday morning, at 7:30, there have now been 61 fatal collisions with 74 fatalities on roadways policed by the Saskatchewan RCMP so far this year.
The latest occurred Wednesday at about three in the morning. Blaine Lake and Rosthern RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway #12 on the Petrofka Bridge.
Investigation determined a minivan collided with a roadside safety barrier and then a parked heavy equipment vehicle. The driver and sole occupant of the minivan, a 63-year-old man from Prince Albert, was declared dead by EMS at the scene.
Highway #12 was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.
Blaine Lake RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
