This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. I never thought I’d ever see fuel for our vehicles essentially becoming targeted with a SIN tax. I think in the future the taxes on gas, ostensibly intended to help maintain roads, will be taxed to the point it is punishing enough people might change modes of transportation. I mean that’s the concept behind SIN taxes on cigarettes and booze – tax it through the roof in the name better health. The federal government is set to hike fuel taxes in September back up to 10 cents per litre of gas and four cents per litre on diesel. The feds had temporarily suspended its fuel tax as a strategy to increase affordability for Canadians. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says taxes account for up to 35 per cent of the price of gas in Canada. All I know, is that I still don’t feel like life is any more affordable.
Suspending the gas tax in the name of affordability is coming to an end
