It’s my Parting Shot for some going into time off Short Shots…..
If you are thinking to yourself – Lazaruk is getting time off again?! Well, the answer is yes. Because I’ve worked for CJWW and the Saskatoon Media Group for almost 32 full years, I get five weeks of holidays. I also get a sixth week for time in lieu for working all those weekends and being on the road for at least 25 nights every winter season calling Saskatoon Blades’ hockey games. Because of the latter being as busy of a season as it is, I really have no opportunity to take time off during the winter, so I have to cram six weeks off in between the end of the hockey season – which was mid-April this year – through the end of August, which is the end of our company’s fiscal year! Truth be told, if I really wanted to, I could legally be off from the time hockey season ends through to the end of August – if I was to be nit-picky and count the hours I’m on duty. But, I’m not mean like that!!
While I’m away, T-F-P will – once again – ask for your trust when it comes to C-F-L game predictions. Besides, the old saying goes about the C-F-L that the season really doesn’t get started and get serious until the Labour Day long weekend! But, that really doesn’t hold – especially this year – what with the Riders and Edmonton tied for the West Division lead and meeting in a home-and-home series in the next two weekends after this one!!
So, Major League Baseball players are resistant to the owners’ idea of a salary cap. That should come as no surprise to anyone – it was the same when salary caps were first proposed to the players and their union bosses in the C-F-L, N-H-L, N-B-A and even the N-F-L. All of those leagues have them – and everyone seems to be flourishing, with the odd exception. The question that needs to be answered is, what kind of revenues are being made by M-L-B and its respective teams? Plus, what percentage of those revenues are going towards player salaries? If that figure is more than 55 per cent of revenues, I can see why the players might balk at a salary cap. So long as baseball owners aren’t trying to put in an unfair salary cap, the players should get on board!!
