Regina Police believe the culprits in a recent spree of vehicle thefts is group of pre-teens.

Officers say there have been multiple reports of vehicles stolen from recreation facilities over the past two weeks.

On October 2 at 6:00 p.m., four sets of keys were stolen from an unlocked dressing room at a recreation facility in the 1700 block of Elphinstone Street. Two of the vehicles that the keys belonged to were taken. The vehicles were tracked throughout the city, traveling upwards of 170 km/h. Both vehicles were located that evening, and two youth were taken into custody, but released due to their age.

Then October 7 at 7:00 p.m. police received a report of a stolen vehicle from a different recreation facility in the same block. Keys, ID and a phone were all taken from an unlocked locker at this location.

Also stolen was a license plate from a different vehicle outside yet another recreation facility. The youth suspects travelled to several towns such as Balgonie and Melville throughout the course of the night, breaking into businesses and stealing various items. When RCMP attempted a traffic stop, the youths evaded at a high rate of speed, nearly running over one of the officers.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested the following morning as a result of this, but several children, ages 9-13 are still in the community.
