The annual Project Red Ribbon Campaign by MADD is back for the 2026 holiday season.
The campaign is done to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, encourages people to drive sober, and remember those who have lost their lives to impaired driving.
Saskatoon Fire Department Director Ryan Bradley says everyone has a role to play in preventing impaired driving.
“Start with a simple conversation, check in with friends, offer a ride, speak up when something doesn’t feel right, help make the safe option, the easy option.”
Bradley says instead of driving impaired people can choose to take a taxi, transit, have a designated driver, stay overnight at a friends or call someone for a ride.
As well, this year’s campaign is done in respect of Surparna and Suranjan Das, both of whom lost their lives to a drunk driver.
Tonya Gresty is a Superintendent with the Saskatoon Police Service. She explains impaired driving is a preventable crime.
“Enforcement alone can not solve impaired driving. Safer roads require police, community partners, Saskatoon businesses, families, and individuals all making safety a priority.”
People can show their support for the campaign by tying a red ribbon to their car, key chain, or backpack, or by putting a red ribbon decal on their car.
The 39th edition of the campaign runs from November 1 – January 4.
Red ribbons and vehicle decals are available at madd.ca or by emailing info@madd.ca.
