The preliminary hearing scheduled for the Evan Hardy Collegiate student who allegedly set her classmate on fire has been waived.
In court Thursday, the Crown filed a direct indictment against the 15-year-old girl, meaning she will go directly to trial without a preliminary hearing, which was set for July 14th to 17th.
The teen, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is accused of attempting to murder a classmate by setting her on fire, as well as causing bodily harm to the teacher involved in putting the fire out. The event occurred on the first day of school, September 5th, 2024.
The Crown seeks an adult sentence for the girl if she is found guilty.
