A now 18-year-old male pled guilty to aggravated assault in Saskatoon court on Thursday in connection to a hit and run from July 23rd, 2025.
Police say when they arrived just after midnight that night, they found a large group of youth and an injured male in a parking lot in the 100 block of Nelson Road. Witnesses told police the victim, who suffered serious injuries, had been on foot in the parking lot when an altercation occurred and a vehicle struck him.
The vehicle then left the scene. Police say a short time later the driver of the vehicle contacted officers and was taken into custody.
The accused was initially charged with aggravated assault by wounding and endangering life, failing to stop following an accident resulting in bodily harm, and two counts of assault with a weapon.
After pleading guilty in court to the aggravated assault he was sentenced, in a sentence imposed under the Youth Justice Act, to 24 months in the community which includes six months of house arrest, followed by 18 months with a 10 p.m. curfew and other conditions. He is also prohibited from driving for two years and must complete 100 hours of community service and additional programming.
The victim, now 19 years old, suffered what his family describes as a life altering brain injury where he was placed in a coma and then underwent emergency brain surgery which required the removal of a large portion of his skull. He then needed further surgery, rehabilitation and ongoing medical treatment.
