The fleet of flight simulators available to commercial pilot students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic has grown by one.
The new toy was made possible through a $450,000 investment from PrairiesCan, the federal department responsible for supporting Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
The immersive, hands-on technology can simulate four different classes of aircraft including single-engine piston, twin engine piston, twin turbine and medium category twin jet. Students are also able to train in different weather conditions, emergency situations, engine failure, and turbulence…all risk free. The simulator is not only safe, but cost-effective, as it eliminates purchases associated with fuel, aircraft maintenance and rental fees.
The investment aims to not only allow students more access to flight hours but also attract additional students to the program. The ALSIM ALX joins the AL250 simulator, which was purchased in 2021 and has six configurations that represent several different types of piston aircraft.
