There are certain songs from musicals over the years that have become recognizable hits like ‘Cabaret’ from the show of the same name, ‘Memory’ from Cats, and ‘All That Jazz’ from Chicago, but there are so many others that deserve recognition. That’s where the Saskatoon Summer Players latest production ‘Broadway B-Sides’ comes in.
Marley Duckett co-wrote the show and is also the co-director. She describes the storyline as a fictional music show set in the 1960s that is being broadcast live on TV, so the audience at the live production at The Refinery in Saskatoon is also the fake audience for the TV show. It’s a larger production than Saskatoon Summer Players usually performs, with 40 entertainers taking part. Duckett says there is a wealth of musical talent in Saskatoon, so there were no issues finding so many great performers.
If you are looking for an emotional boost in the February doldrums, Duckett invites you to check out Broadway B-Sides, which runs February 21st to 23rd.
