This summer, the Friendship Inn started a new initiative.
CEO Sandra Kary says in an effort to expand its ability to serve the community, the Inn started serving supper meals on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays between four and five p.m..
“We’ve been very full in the supper hour, and there is a lot of demand for it. We’ll see how things go as the weather gets colder and hopefully do our best to bring people in out of the cold and get their tummies full.”
The Inn has also extended breakfats and lunch service times by 30 minutes each to reach more people.
If that isn’t enough, Kary says the Inn will be providing a full-blown turkey dinner for over 2500 people this Thanksgiving.
“Turkey, mashed potaotoes, stuffing, gravy, vegetabes, pumpkin pie, cranberry suace… the whole works. We’re cooking up to 70 turkeys that day and many, many pounds of potatoes.”
To ensure it’s a ‘go’, Kary reminds the public that donations of cash, pies, potatoes, turkeys, or volunteer time are always welcome.
“When we head into October, because of that holiday season, that’s when we look to community for support. We’re all trying to put food around our table and have a celebratory meal at Thanksgiving, so we just want people to remember that there are those that are in need and could use that support.”
Kary says, on average, the Inn provides between 1500 and 1700 meals per day, an increase from last year. Kary encourages those interested in volunteering to visit their website.
