A researcher at the University of Saskatchewan has been accepted as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, a feat considered one of the highest honours for Canadian health scientists.
Dr. Alexandra King, originally from Nipissing First Nation in Ontario, was noticed for her work in Indigenous wellness, specifically with the care and treatment of HIV, AIDS, and viral hepatitis.
King holds other prestigeous titles in academia, including the Cameco Chair in Indigenous Health and Wellness at USask. She is also a co-leader of the Indigenous Wellness Research Group.
She says, “Being nominated and accepted as a Fellow is a huge honour. For CAHS, having another Indigenous researcher, and in particular a First Nation woman, as a member, is incredibly important.”
As a CAHS Fellow, King hopes to bring a unique perspective to the academy as it looks to the future of health research in Canada.
