Canadian RCMP have launched an investigation following a violent, threatening email sent to over 100 Jewish institutions yesterday morning.
Richard Robertson, the Director of Research and Advocacy at B’nai Brith Canada, says no threats were made against organizations in Saskatchewan, however several institutions in the prairies were affected.
“The email was sent to all the Jewish institutions that were targeted across Canada, as well as to several hospitals in the Ottawa, Ontario area. It contained the same threat against each institution.”
Robertson says the mass-email stated explosive devices had been planted in each of the targeted institutions and would be detonated within a few hours.
It read that the reason for the threats was that those within the institutions deserved to “die in a pool of blood.”
All targeted buildings were evacuated, and no one was injured. Robertson says the threat was determined to be empty, and next steps include finding out who was behind the act of terrorism.
“Law enforcement across the country have been notified of this threat and have been investigating and working to determine whether or not this was a credible threat. At this point it appears that it was merely just a threat.”
He adds that the Jewish community must not be intimidated by events like this, which attempt to undermine the security of our nation and commit terror against Canadians.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said yesterday he was disgusted by the violent threats to the Jewish community.
