Triumphs, MGs of all kinds, TVRs, Land Rovers, and Astons are just some of the British cars that will be on display at the 24th annual Brits by the Bess, taking place Sunday on Saskatoon’s 21st Street.
Bob Burnyeat, the president of the Saskatchewan British Car Club, says over the years, the show has grown from including roughly a dozen cars, to showcasing over 70. The cars and their owners make the trip to Saskatoon from all over the province, with some coming in from Alberta.
“The Regina guys will come up. We’ll probably get six or eight or more that come up to the Saskatoon show, and vice versa, we go down. We have one member in Prince Albert that comes down, and then some from Calgary and Edmonton.”
Burnyeat says the Club is adding a new experience to the show this year.
“We’re actually featuring MG as a car mark this year. So, we have a representative right from the 1950s up to the 80s of all the MGs that were produced.”
The cars are set up with a scannable bar code that allows viewers to read the story behind each car, including where it came from and what’s been done to it.
Burnyeat says some of the cars on display were dragged out of a field and fully restored, whereas others are in all-original pristine condition.
“The nice thing about our cars and our shows is that we don’t have them all roped off. You can get right up and look in a car, and owners are usually more than happy to pop the engine hood. If you ask really politely, most owners will let you sit in the car and take a photo, too.”
He encourages car enthusiast, or those just willing to learn, to come out between from 11:00am to 4:00pm tomorrow.
