The water was running in the Rural Municipality of Vanscoy on Wednesday afternoon.
It is the first significant spring runoff in the region in five to ten years, according to Reeve Leonard Junop. The moisture comes from a wet, heavy snowfall about a month ago. Saskatoon reported up to 40 centimeters of snow and Junop says there may have been a little more in his area about 25 kilometres southwest of the city.
The runoff slowed Thursday with the drop in temperature, but there was some additional rain. Things should speed up on Friday and into the weekend as the daytime highs stretch into the teens.
Junop has this advice for motorists.
