A public inquest into the death of Gerald Burnouf begins today (mon) at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench. The 49 year old was found unresponsive in his cell at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre in October of 2016. Medical personnel responded and he was pronounced dead. The Chief Coroner must hold an inquest into the death of a person who dies while an inmate at a jail or a correctional facility unless the death was due to natural causes and was not preventable. Coroner Neil Robertson of Regina will preside. The inquest is scheduled to last the entire week.
