The Saskatchewan Progress Party has written to the Chief Electoral Officer regarding the Saskatchewan Party government, and how they continue to advertise during the by-elections, against section 277 of the Elections Act.
SPP Leader Jeff Walters wrote that there have been three instances where the Sask. Party has ignored these guidelines. They include a province-wide billboard campaign regarding Saskatchewan teachers’ salaries, a public ceremony about healthcare advancements, and withholding Crown corporation financial information until after the by-election date writ was triggered.
Walters says the Minister Responsible then used the by-elections as a reason to refuse to be held publicly accountable on the matter.
Walters urged Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer, to enforce the rules on advertising during election season, suggesting measures such as implementing a monitoring system, impose penalties, and conduct an educational campaign to make voters aware of the rule breach.
