A 9-1-1 hang up call alerted the Saskatoon Fire Department to a possible structure fire in the 800 block of 1524 Rayner Avenue. That’s the Rayner Village mobile home community. The call came in to police initially at 8:39 p.m. and no details were provided.
When crews arrived at the address in Saskatoon’s Sutherland neighbourhood they could see smoke coming from a structure. Firefighters identified a fire in the bathroom with a person still inside. At 8:51 p.m. a woman was removed from the structure.
The Saskatoon Police Service says a 58-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man suffering the effects of smoke inhalation were treated and transported to hospital by Medavie Health Services West as a precautionary measure.
At 9:38 p.m. fire crews were still actively putting out the fire. The Fire Investigator determined the cause of the fire to be improper use of a portable electric heater. Fire damage is estimated at $40,000.
