Saskatoon Police Service sent out an email on the weekend saying that Canadian Forces Base Dundurn was conducting controlled burns within the military base Saturday and problems ensued with smoke in high winds which continued Sunday. However, there seems to be some questions around whether it was a controlled burn or a fire sparked from military exercises.  A special air quality statement was issued Sunday morning for Saskatoon and area because of the smoke from grass fires south of Saskatoon giving poor air quality to the city and surrounding areas.   And at 12:45 Sunday morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a call for “mutual aid” from the Dundurn Fire Department.  Saskatoon sent two fire brush trucks and two water tankers to help with protecting homes in the Beaver Creek area.  Saskatoon fire crews cleared the scene shortly after 6:30 Sunday morning and fire officials say no one was injured. Sunday was also supposed to be opening day at Dakota Dunes but golf was cancelled in the afternoon due to heavy smoke.
