The Government of Saskatchewan is working to support kidney health in the province through a $4 million technology investment.
The investment is expected to support over 2,500 patients through the Provincial Kidney Health Program.
The work is done by eHealth Saskatchewan to support electronic medical records. The EMRs are developed to improve continuity of care by providing a single record for kidney patients across Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan Health Authority, Kidney Health, Provincial Medical Lead Dr. James Barton says, “Having every kidney clinic, dialysis unit, home dialysis program and transplant team in Saskatchewan on the same purpose-built system means a patient’s information follows them wherever they receive care, and it connects us more closely as one provincial program.”
EMRs have been used in Saskatchewan for kidney care since 1999. The most recent update will make sure there’s automated dialysis data capture and centralized reporting, as well as provide better information flow between other EMRs used by patients and providers.
