It’s my Parting Shot for Weekend Short Shots, including T-F-P’s picks for the C-F-L division finals…..
Because I’ve kept The Fearless Predictor busy all four days this week in this space – and will again shortly – I haven’t taken much time to react to goings-on in the wide world of sports. However, I wore my blue Winnipeg Jets’ jersey to work on Wednesday here at CJWW and a matching blue Jets’ ball cap – the jersey matching what the team wore in Tuesday night’s come-from-behind 5-4 overtime victory in Montreal! I must admit, I had given up on my favourite N-H-L squad, resigned to a 10th consecutive setback, when I looked on-line on my phone and saw the Habs were leading 4-0 with about five minutes left. Imagine my shock and jubilation about an hour later when I checked for other scores and saw Winnipeg had come back with one of the greatest, multi-goal comebacks in a very short time frame to win!
Now, for me, anytime the Jets can beat the Habs is a red-letter day! But, on this occasion, this result is aptly-named the “Miracle in Montreal!!”
Which brings me to T-F-P and the C-F-L. I correctly picked both division semi-final winners last weekend. I intend on getting the division final games right as well, starting with the East where there will not be a “Miracle in Montreal” for a Winnipeg team on this occasion. The C-F-L’s Alouettes won’t forget to finish off a big lead in the East final, no matter how good the Bombers’ defence or back-up quarterback Dru Brown plays – since it looks like he’s getting the start while Zach Collaros can barely practice with a rib injury! Nope, the Als will win by more than 10 points!
The West final has B-C in Edmonton. It’s a big leap to go from missing the playoffs for the last five seasons to suddenly finishing first. But, that’s what the Elks did. Question is, did clinching that spot early and having a bye into the final hurt their chances of making it to the Grey Cup Game? It says here it did hurt because I’m picking the Lions to prevail by less than a field goal!
Of course, I have to believe those since I said B-C would beat Montreal for the Grey Cup prior to last weekend’s division semis!
One last short shot, can the local golf courses consider opening this weekend, from say 10 a.m. to dark? Sixteen degrees on Sunday?! Break out the barbecue and the sun screen on November 8!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!
