This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. I wouldn’t get too excited by news that talk having recently gotten underway again between Canada and the United States will bear fruit. Word is that U.S. President Donald Trump is facing challenges heading into the midterms and aside from the obvious benefit, in my eyes, to his losing favour, the fact that Trump’s self started trade war with Canada may see some progress back to normalcy is very much up in the air. The man is volatile at best. And just yesterday at a rally in Michigan he made reference to the closure of car plants in Canada and Mexico saying “Canada has been ripping off the United States for years. We’ll have that settled really soon; they’re willing to give us anything at this moment.” How we are ripping him off usually remains at the least unclear and at the most unfounded. Apparently Canadians are also starting to flow back to the United States. Statistics Canada reports that tourism to the U.S. by Canadian citiizens was up more than 17 per cent this September compared to last. The tourism sector in some U.S. states has been rocked by our citizenship choosing to suspend visiting the U.S. in light of the trade war. Well I for one have zero desire to head south until the trade war is put to bed.
Talks seem to be on again between Canada and the U.S.
