If it felt like sticker shock when you went to fill up this weekend – there was good reason. Average retail gasoline prices in Saskatoon have risen 12.5 c/L in the past week, averaging 181.18 c/L yesterday, according to GasBuddy.com’s daily survey of 81 gas outlets in Saskatoon. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says Prairie provinces seeing sharp jumps driven by the same Great Lakes refinery disruptions that rippled across the border, while most other provinces posted declines.
. This compares with the national average that has increased 1.2 c/L in the last week to 173.86 c/L, according to price app GasBuddy. The national average price of diesel has decreased 0.5c/L compared to a week ago and stands at 257.9c/L.
Including the change in gas prices in Saskatoon during the past week, prices yesterday were 49.1 c/L higher than the same day one year ago and are 3.9 c/L lower than a month ago.
In a news release De Haan said, “Diesel told a more uneven story, with results varying across the country as global refining supply pressures continue to play out unevenly by region. Oil eased somewhat in Sunday trading, with WTI hovering just above $102 per barrel and Brent near $115, as markets weighed continued Strait of Hormuz uncertainty against OPEC’s latest demand revisions, though both benchmarks remain well elevated and the outlook for Canadian pump prices remains unsettled.”
