Two Onion Lake men have been charged following an RCMP investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds intended for the Onion Lake Cree Nation.
A Saskatchewan RCMP news release says the investigation began after a report was received on March 12, 2026, and determined that over a four-year period, the two men allegedly requested and received payments from landholders on the First Nation unlawfully.
As a result, 67-year-old Tommy Whitstone and 54-year-old Richard Stanley, both of Onion Lake, have each been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000. They are scheduled to make their first court appearance in Onion Lake on November 25.
The RCMP are encouraging anyone who believes they may have had suspicious or fraudulent dealings with either accused to contact 310-RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
