The Saskatchewan Health Authority announced today that it is adding two additional metal detectors to St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
In a news release the SHA says, “This model of improving hospital safety is clearly working. Internal reviews have demonstrated that screening processes at facilities where metal detectors have been installed have already prevented concealed weapons from entering facilities.”
As of Wednesday, another two detectors became operational at the main entrance to St. Paul’s Hospital.
In early 2026, SHA implemented metal detector screening programs at eight sites across the province, including main entrances at Prince Albert Victoria Hospital, Battlefords Union Hospital and the Regina Urgent Care Centre, as well as Emergency Department entrances at the three hospitals in Saskatoon, including St. Paul’s Hospital, and the two hospitals in Regina.
There is also an external review of protective services protocols underway. That review was announced by the Ministry of Health in the spring of 2026.
