Meadow Lake RCMP were called to a church on fire early Thursday morning.
At 2 a.m., officers were called to a blaze on 2nd Street East in Meadow Lake, an address consistent with All Saints Orthodox Church. Fire and EMS also responded. RCMP says there were no injuries in the event, however the 68-year-old church was destroyed by fire. Fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency are currently working to identify the cause and origin of the fire.
This is not the first fire of its kind in the area. The event happened to take place just hours after the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. In 2022, Meadow Lake RCMP investigated a church fire on Waterhen Lake First Nation, which was determined to be suspicious in nature. Then, in September 2024, the St. George Anglican Church in Loon Lake, built in 1939, burned to the ground, and a man was later charged with arson.
