So, the referendum questions have been mailed out in Alberta with a number of Albertans now saying some referendum ballots missing. Meanwhile, Alberta’s government has launched a $4-million campaign for the October 19th referendum, urging Albertans to vote in support of a strong and sovereign Alberta within United Canada, including by voting yes to questions one through nine. There are those who organized the referendum who don’t think the Alberta government should weigh in on the topic while some political analysts feel it should if it is in favour of staying in Canada. I don’t agree. I think the Alberta government should be arm’s length from this costly exercise in the name of complete objectivity. Now in Saskatoon we have launched a petition. The first official signatures hit the paper on Saturday so there is now 90 days to get 10 per cent of the electors to sign in order to force a referendum on DEED the downtown event and entertainment district. Two thoughts – referendums are very costly and secondly maybe the referendum shouldn’t about DEED going ahead but we should wait to see what kind of deal could be made and then make a choice.
