This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. I wanted to end the week on a happy note after seeing people just being good humans Thursday. I was heading down Circle Drive around 9 in the morning – in fact – had just turned right off Airport Drive when I see both vehicles – one right in front of me and one in the left lane slowing down and then the truck in front of me quickly pulled over and the driver jumped out. I’m also using this as a cautionary tale. I’ve lost count of the number of times I have slowed down for someone crossing a street but the vehicle in the lane beside can’t see them and instead of preceding with an abundance of caution they accelerate because apparently, I’ve got nothing better to do, than hold up traffic and then the other driver has to hit the brakes to avoid hitting the pedestrian. We all need to remember not to assume everyone else on the road is just trying to make your life harder. Now back to my story. The gentleman who jumped out of the truck was thankfully also wearing high visibility clothing, presumably for his work because he jogged across Circle Drive holding back traffic. There was a mama duck and all her little ducklings trying to cross the freeway. It’s like she knew she had a window of opportunity and off she and her little cuties went. And no one was cranky about the delay. In fact, that fine gentleman got multiple thumbs up from other drivers.
Happy thoughts

Environment Canada is lessening the number of weather alerts it sends out, keeping notifications location-specific. Do you think the change will be helpful?
Yes, I was developing alert fatigue
No, this probably won't change anything
