The Saskatchewan Health Authority says having extra security at SHA facilities in Prince Albert, North Battleford and Lloydminster is going to become permanent and they are expanding to other communities.

In 2025 the SHA contracted extra security to support care teams at their facilities.

In a news release the SHA says the success led to making the trial permanent in those three communities and now it is expanding to La Loche, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Nipawin and Melfort. Rollout of this program in the communities of Kamsack, Weyburn and Shellbrook has been delayed due to collective bargaining requirements with the CUPE.

Provincial Director of Protective Services and Health Emergency Management for the SHA, Vince Ashmeade says staff are trained to use prevention, de-escalation and if needed, a physical response to deal with violence.

The Corps of Commissionaires was selected to provide the services.
