Saskatchewan NDP are hosting an open house in Saskatoon in September after reports emerge of a potential AI data centre proposed for land in the RM of Corman Park.

The opposition leader wants to hear directly from residents about concerns and questions surrounding AI data centres.

A news release from the NDP says community leaders and experts have raised questions about land use, power demand, water consumption, environmental impacts and the long-term economic benefits of these facilities.

NDP Shadow Minister for Tech, Innovation & AI Brittney Senger said, “What they’re asking for is honesty and transparency – and the Sask. Party has failed so badly to deliver that on similar projects in Moose Jaw and another in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood, near Regina.”

They also say thousands have signed petitions expressing concerns about the data centres in Moose Jaw and Sherwood.

In Moose Jaw, one Sask. Party MLA has endorsed the data centre for the Valley View area, attending and speaking at a ribbon cutting for the project, while the other has said it will not proceed due to concerns about power consumption.
