The severe weather continued Sunday in Saskatchewan with the Kinistino area being among the hardest hit.
On its webpage the Northern Tornadoes Project has confirmed six tornadoes on Friday in Dundurn, Leross, Cupar, Plunckett and two twisters in Herzel.
The NTP has also confirmed two tornadoes in Glaslyn on Saturday.
Tornado investigations are underway for Rosthern, Redberry, Petrofka, Speers and Waldheim. Meanwhile, the Waldheim Regional Park Golf Course has announced on social media it is closed until further notice due to massive damage. A video posted shows how terrible a toll the high winds took on trees and infrastructure. As well – four daytime high records were either broken or tied on Sunday.
In addition to a record number or tornadoes on the weekend, new temperature records were set in Saskatchewan. On Sunday Cypress Hills Provincial Park saw the mercury crest at 31.8 degrees. That beats out the old record of 30.4 degrees in 2003. Eastend Cypress tied a record of 32.7 degrees set in 2002. Wynard saw a daytime high of 32.0 degrees. The old record was 30.9 set in 2006, and Yorkton beat out a 62-year-old record with a daytime high of 33.8 degrees. The old record was 33.3 degrees set in 1964.
The hotspot in the province was Val Marie at 37.0 degrees. Saskatoon topped out at 30.5 degrees.
Meanwhile there are weather related power outages in the northeast. SaskPower, on its outage map, says due to safety reasons crews ceased work for the night last night and will resume repairs at 8 a.m. this morning for Carrot River, Arborfield, Zenon Park, and surrounding areas as well as Hudson Bay, Prairie River, Mistatim and Porcupine Plain
Meanwhile, crews are continuing to investigate the cause and repair time for the outage reported in Davidson Craik and Aylesbury and surrounding rurals.
